THE Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD) yesterday hosted an educational and entertaining fun fair at the Jerudong Park Colonnade aimed at enhancing financial awareness and literacy in conjunction with National Savings Day 2017.
The one-day event, held in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MoE) and Employees Trust Fund (TAP), was officiated by the guest of honour, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, the Minister of Home Affairs cum Deputy Chairman of AMBD’s Board of Directors.
Also present yesterday were the Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Dato Paduka Awang Haji Mohamad Roselan bin Haji Mohamad Daud, and Legislative Council (LegCo) member YB Iswandy bin Ahmad.
With its theme ‘Financially Literate Generation’, the family-oriented programme, held for only the second time, intended to create a fun environment for all to learn financial management concepts through various games and activities designed and organised by the financial regulator as well as the country’s financial institutions.
The interactive games showcased also helped shed light on themes such as savings, budgeting and debt management.
Among the financial institutions taking part in the fair were Baiduri Bank Berhad, Great Eastern Life Assurance, Takaful Brunei, Standard Chartered Bank, Insurans Islam TAIB Holdings Sdn Bhd and Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD), as well as other organisations like Junior Achievement (JA) Brunei.
The event also saw the participation of local food vendors as well as guest appearances by inspirational national athletes – Fakhri Islail, Maziah Mahusin and Jaspar Yu – and also some variety performances by school pupils.
In a press statement, AMBD said that following the fair, they will organise a financial showcase in collaboration with TAP at The Airport Mall in Berakas on Saturday, May 20.
The financial regulator has also planned several other activities across the country in the run-up to observing the National Savings Day, which falls on May 28.
